Setting up KKoncepts Email on Outlook Express

Here we will set up Outlook Express 6 to send and receive our KKoncepts email account.  We'll use an imaginary user named "K. Koncepts" who has the email address. "k.koncepts@kkoncepts.net".  Anywhere you see those name, you should, of course, use your own name and email address.

To set up your account, open Outlook Express, click on the "Tools" menu, and then select the "Accounts" item.  (Throughout this document, we'll highlight in light-red ovals where on the screen you should click or enter information.)

When the "Internet Accounts" window opens, click on the "Add" button on the right-hand side.

Then click on "Mail" in the box that appears.

This brings up the "Internet Connection Wizard".  Enter the name that you want others to see as the "From" address in your emails.  (This is not your email address; this is your name.)  In our case our user is named "K. Koncepts" so that's what we'll enter.

Once you've entered your name, click the "Next" button.

Now in this screen, enter your actual KKoncepts email address.  In this example, our user's email address is "k.koncepts@kkoncepts.net", so that's what we enter.

Once you've entered your email address, click the "Next" button.

In the next screen, where it says, "My incoming mail server is a ...", click on the drop-down box and select "POP3" or "IMAP" depending on which method you want to use to read your mail.  If in doubt, choose POP3.

Then in the "Incoming mail server" and "Outgoing mail server" fields, enter "smail.kkoncepts.net" in both.

When you are done, click the "Next" button.

In the next screen, where it asks for your "Account name" you should enter you KKoncepts account name.  If you email address ends in "@kkoncepts.net", then your account name is your email address without "@kkoncepts.net".  If your email address is anything else, then your account name is the same as your email.

In our case, our user's email address is "k.koncepts@kkoncepts.net", so it does end in "@kkoncepts.net".  Therefore the account name is just "k.koncepts".  But if our email address was "k.koncepts@kkoncepts-staff.net", for example, then our account name would be our full email address - k.koncepts@kkoncepts-staff.net",

For this user, we'll enter "k.koncepts" as the "Account Name".

Then if you wish Outlook to store your password (and not ask you for it every time you connect), enter your email password in the "Password" field and check the small box below it that says "Remember Password".

Click the "Next" button once you are finished.

That's the end of the wizard and we're back to the "Internet Accounts" screen.  You'll see a new account created called "smail.kkoncepts.net".  Click on that line to select it and then click the "Properties" button.

In the screen that appears, click on the tab labeled "Servers".

At the bottom of the page, in the section labeled "Outgoing Mail Server", check the box which says "My server requires authentication."

Then click on the tab labeled "Advanced".

Check the two boxes labeled "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" under "Outgoing" and "Incoming" server settings.  Once you done that, make sure the ports field also changed.  The port for the Outgoing server must be "465".  The incoming server port should be "995" for a POP3 account and "993" for an IMAP account.  If the ports did not change automatically to match these values, then edit the fields and enter them manually.

Once you've done that, click the "OK" button at the bottom of the page.

Now we're back once again at the "Internet Accounts" box.  Click the "Close" button to close this screen.

Now your KKoncepts email account is set up and ready to use in Outlook Express.
