I had just install CrashPlan Pro on my Kubuntu 14.04 desktop. The installation was not that difficult except that you need to remember to change /usr/local/bin for the link directory to /usr/bin.
But I had a problem after the installation - the Desktop client would crash when I run it. The problem has to do with libwebkitgtk - which I had installed for some programs I use. It is a known problem with a solution available.
- Edit the run.conf file in your CrashPlan app installation directory -e.g. /usr/local/crashplan/bin/
- Navigate to the end of the GUI_JAVA_OPTS section
- Add the following inside the quote at the end: -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=mozilla
Unfortunately this fix will be overwritten everytime there is an upgrade and so needs to be run after each upgrade.
Note: This problem only affect the desktop - not the background program - which will continue to work.
